เรื่องและภาพโดย Candy : บ้าน-ป่า-ปง-เปียง ชื่อนี้เป็นภาษากระเหรี่ยง เพราะที่นี่เป็นหมู่บ้านของกระเหรี่ยง เผ่าปกากะญอ อยู่ในอำเภอแม่แจ่ม จ.เชียงใหม่ .. ลองหลับตา…แล้วให้บรรยากาศมันพาใจไป…ลืมตา…. บ้าจริง!! ฉันมีเวลาอยู่ที่นี่แค่ 1 วัน !! แต่การได้อยู่เงียบๆ ฟัง เสียงลม ชมภาพเบื้องหน้าที่เป็นหุบเขากว้างใหญ่สุดลูกหูลูกตา ร่างกายได้สัมผัสละอองฝนและสายหมอก แม้เป็นช่วงนาทีสั้นๆ แต่คงเป็นเวลาที่ดีที่สุดของชีวิตทีเดียว 
ฉันเดินทางจากตัวเมืองเชียงใหม่ ใช้เส้นทางขึ้นทางด้านดอยอินทนนท์ ขับมาจนถึงด่านอุทยานฯ ผ่านด่านแรก จนเจอด่านที่ 2 ก็เลี้ยวซ้ายแยกที่จะมาอำเภอแม่แจ่ม และขับต่ออีก 12 กิโลเมตร เห็นป้ายน้ำตกแม่ปานจึงเลี้ยวขวาตามเส้นทางเข้าน้ำตกแม่ปาน พอผ่านที่ทำการอุทยานแม่ปานมาอีกประมาณ 3 กิโลเมตร ก็ถึงจุดหมายปลายทางนี้แล้ว
แสงอาทิตย์ยามเช้าส่องลงมากระทบทุ่งนาสีเขียวที่เรียงตัวลดหลั่นเป็นขั้นๆ รายล้อมด้วยภูเขา ,เสียงน้ำตกที่ไหลมาหล่อเลี้ยงผืนนา , สายหมอกปกคลุมทั่วบริเวณ กับกระท่อมหลังเล็กๆ ตั้งเด่นอยู่กลางทุ่งเสมือนใครมาจับวางไว้ เป็นองค์ประกอบภาพที่สวยงาม มันช่างเหมาะแก่การพักผ่อนสมอง และสายตา และเอนตัวลงนอนให้เต็มอิ่มเสียจริงๆ
ช่วงฤดูฝนกันยายนทุ่งนาจะเขียวขจี จนถึงเดือนตุลาคมทุ่งนาจะเป็นสีเขียว จนเห็นขั้นบันไดอย่างชัดเจน และพอเข้าเดือนพฤศจิกายน ทุ่งนาจะเริ่มเปลี่ยนเป็นสีเหลืองทองจนเต็มทุ่ง อาจเรียกได้ว่าเป็นหนึ่งในภาพทุ่งนาที่สวยที่สุดเท่าที่ใครๆเคยเห็นมา จนอยากจะหอบความเหนื่อยล้าแล้ว “ทิ้งตัวลง” ที่นี่ อีกครั้ง
หากใครจะมาช่วงหน้าฝน ย้ำว่าเฉพาะหน้าฝน! รถที่สามารถเข้าถึงคือ กระบะ 4×4 เท่านั้น เพราะเส้นทางเป็นดินเลน มีน้ำขังเป็นระยะอาจจะติดหล่มได้ ต้องอาศัยความชำนาญในการขับขี่
เพื่อความสะดวกขอแนะนำว่า ให้นำรถไปจอดไว้ที่อุทยานแห่งชาติดอยอินทนนท์ ติดต่อเช่าเหมารถกระบะกับเจ้าหน้าที่อุทยานฯ ติดต่อที่เบอร์ 0 5328 6728 – 9 ,053-268-550 ค่าเช่าประมาณ 800-1,200 บาท
อีกวิธีหนึ่งคือติดต่อเช่าเหมารถกระบะเหลืองที่หน้าวัดพระธาตุศรีจอมทอง จะสะดวกมาก เพราะคนขับเป็นเจ้าบ้านสามารถพาเราไปเที่ยวตามจุดต่างๆ บนดอยอินทนนท์ได้ด้วย ไม่ว่าจะเป็น น้ำตกวชิรธาร น้ำตกผาดอกเสี้ยว อ่างกา กิ่วแม่ปาน พระมหาธาตุเจดีย์ นาขั้นบันไดแม่กลางหลวง น้ำตกสิริภูมิ สถานีเกษตรหลวงอ่างขาง ราคาประมาณ 1,500-2,000 บาท ต่อ 1 วัน/คัน 10คน/คัน
แต่ตอนนี้ฉันขอทิ้งตัวลงในความสงบสบายที่บ้านป่าปงเปียงสักหนึ่งวันเต็มๆก่อนนะ.
Ban Pa Pong Pieng, a place to lie down
The rice fields are shaped as stairs, and I feel so welcomed by them.
Ban Pa Pong Pieng is a Karen name. The place is a Karen village, to be exact. It’s in Mae Jaem District of Chiang Mai.
We are so used to urban chaos that this doesn’t feel like Thailand to me. And I just have one day to spend here. How crazy is that?
But well, one day is better than never. No matter how briefly, being in a quiet environment for a change, listening to the winds and taking in the mountains spreading as far as the eyes can see is a worthwhile thing to do.
I travelled from downtown Chiang Mai, using the route leading to the Intanont peak. After the second checkpoint and a left turn took me to Mae Jaem. From Mae Jaem, a 12-kilometer drive put me in front of the Mae Pan Waterfall sign. I took the waterfall route and drove past the Mae Pan park headquarters for about 3 kilometers and there it was _ Ban Pa Pong Pieng.
The morning sunlight and the staircase rice fields complimented each other. The natural peace was not disturbed by sounds of water-flows. Fogs embraced many things on the ground including the little huts. What a sight. It immediately relaxed your minds and made you want to just lie down and take it all in.
It’s very green in September and October, highlighting the “stairs”. The green turns golden in November, arguably making them the most beautiful rice fields you’ve ever seen.
This village, however, can only be accessed with 4×4 trucks during the rainy season. Good driving skills are needed.
For your convenience, leaving your car at the Doi Intanont national park headquarters is recommended. From there, trucks can be rent at Bt800-Bt1,200. Necessary contact numbers are 053-286-728, 053-268-550.
Another convenient option is to rent a yellow pick-up at the Sri Jom Thong Temple. The local driver can take you to various interesting spots on Doi Intanont including the Wachiratarn Waterfall, Pha Dok Siew Waterfall, Siriphum Waterfall, Ang Ka, Ang Khang royal farm station and etc. It will cost about Bt1,500-Bt2,000 per day (10 passengers).
As for now, let me lie down at Ban Pa Pong Pieng.
