Pakayor, Hill Tribe House, and Us
Zigzagging along the dense forest in Umphang District, Tak province, is the narrow road which finally disappears in the thick dark green woods. Somewhere in the woods hide wooden hill tribe houses “Pakayor Resort”, all waiting for the right time to welcome visitors.
The owner, a descendent of Pakakayor or Karens, invited us to leave our urban lifestyle behind and simply experience the Pakakayor life for a day. It’s quite a good chance to taste such a simple life, amidst the green rice fields and clear waters. Rafting, riding to see how Pakakayor or Karens’ village spend the day, setting up a camp fire near the rice fields and watching the performance of young Karen children while listening to hill tribe music.
The huge mountain range stands majestic in front. Cool, clear water fills the river. Cool breeze blows onto the rice field. It’s quite a change for urban people like us to leave our hectic life behind and rest in this Umphang forest area… happily.
